Little Artist – Policies & Safety Information

1. Safeguarding Policy

Little Artist Safeguarding Policy

Little Artist is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and creative environment where children can explore art and creativity confidently.
Sessions are designed as parent-supervised creative classes, meaning parents or carers remain responsible for supervising their children at all times.

Responsibilities
Parents or carers must remain present during the session.
Children must not be left unattended.
Instructors aim to provide a safe environment but parents remain responsible for their children’s supervision and behaviour.

DBS & Training

Little Artist instructors:
Hold a DBS check
Have completed basic safeguarding awareness training

Safeguarding Concerns

If an instructor has concerns about a child’s welfare, they will:
Record the concern.
Speak with the parent or carer if appropriate.
Contact relevant safeguarding authorities if necessary.

2. Illness & Attendance Policy

To keep sessions safe and enjoyable for everyone:
If your child is unable to attend, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance where possible so that the space can be offered to another child.
When sufficient notice is given, we will offer a courtesy class which can be booked for a future session via email (subject to availability).
If a child has symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea or a contagious illness, please do not attend the
session.
Parents remain responsible for supervising their child during the session.

3. Photography Policy

Little Artist may occasionally take photographs during sessions to share the creativity and fun of the classes.
Parents will be asked for permission before photographs are taken.
Children’s names will never be published with images.
Images may be used for social media, website or promotional materials.
Parents are welcome to photograph their own child but should avoid capturing other children without permission.

4. Behaviour Policy

Little Artist aims to create a positive, creative and welcoming environment.
Parents or carers must remain present and supervise their child.
Children should treat other participants, materials and the venue with respect.
If a child becomes upset or disruptive, parents may be asked to help settle them or take a short break.
Our aim is for all children to feel confident, creative and supported.

5. Health & Safety / Materials Policy

Little Artist uses age-appropriate craft materials suitable for preschool children.
Where possible we aim to use repurposed and sustainable materials, reflecting our commitment to caring for the world our children will grow up in. All our pains are washable, however there is no guarantee these will not stain.
We provide aprons for the children participating during the sessions but we cannot be held responsible for any damage which may occur on clothing or footwear during your visit. We recommend that you wear older clothing.

Safety measures include:
child-safe scissors
non-toxic paints and materials (where possible)
supervision by parents during activities
clear workspace setup
A small baby area may be provided for families attending with younger siblings.

We use local halls and amenities, some of these buildings are old and the heating can be inconsistent. Please consider providing your child with appropriate warm clothing.

6. Basic Risk Assessment

Activity: Preschool Art & Craft Sessions
A basic risk assessment is carried out prior to the session which include:

Washable paints used, protective table coverings
Small craft items
Parent supervision at all times
Scissors
Child-safe scissors only
Trips or slips
Clear floor space, tidy materials
AllergiesParents remain responsible for supervising snacks and materials
Venues must meet basic health & safety requirements (fire exits, ventilation, accessible toilets, first aid provision).

7. Accident / Incident Form

Little Artist keeps an Accident Record book where the information will be recorded.

8. Child Details Form (for bookings) and Data Policy

We collect basic information such as parent contact details, child’s name, age so we can run Little Artist sessions safely. Your data will never be shared with third parties and is stored securely. Data collected for a particular session will be removed once session date as pass. You can request deletion of your data at any time. 

For clarificatioin the following information will be collected at the point of booking.

Payments are taken by Squarespace Payments which are PCI Compliance, payment data encryption, SSL-certified secure checkouts.
